Point to Point Transport Commissioner targeting taxis failing to use the meter

Published

Point to Point Transport Commissioner, Anthony Wing’s on-street compliance team will be conducting a compliance operation at major events over the weekend targeting taxi drivers providing rank and hail passenger services who are not using the vehicle’s meter.

Drivers are reminded that rank and hail taxi services must use the meter. A fine of $300 applies for failure to use the meter.

"My compliance team of Authorised Officers will be out in force throughout Metropolitan Sydney this weekend, and following weekends, targeting drivers failing to turn on the meter. Passengers will see my Authorised Officers at The Everest at Randwick Racecourse and the Bruno Mars concert at Allianz Stadium, along with other major events.” Mr Wing said.

The Commissioner undertakes regular compliance activities throughout the state. Fines apply for breaches of point to point transport law including the failure to use the meter in rank and hail situations.

Passengers are encouraged to look out for the Commissioner’s safety campaigns such as “Let’s Make Every Ride a Safe Ride” and “Don't get taken for a ride” for tips on understanding the law and travelling to and from their destination safely.

“The safety of drivers and passengers is my absolute priority and any instance where drivers are not following the law is unacceptable which is why my team will be conducting one of its targeted operations over the next few weeks.” Mr Wing finished.
