On January 31, Point to Point Transport Commission Inspectors carried out a joint operation with Kings Cross Police Area Command at the Domain in Sydney’s CBD. The joint operation targeted taxis and hire vehicles (including rideshare) checking vehicle safety and driver compliance.

In total, 45 vehicle inspections were carried out resulting in three penalty notices, four prohibition notices and three improvement notices being issued. Two penalty notices were issued to hire vehicles for failing to display a retroreflective sign and stopping in a taxi zone.

One penalty notice was issued to a taxi driver for not displaying a driver identity document, and prohibition notices were issued to four taxis for tyres with insufficient tread. Three improvement notices were issued to taxi service providers for security camera systems not in good working order.

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner, Anthony Wing, welcomed the joint operation reinforcing that targeted compliance is a crucial part of the Commission’s strategic priorities for 2022.

“Working with NSW Police and industry on these types of joint operations is fundamental to ensuring safer passenger services. These operations allow us to work with the NSW Police and partner agencies to deliver better, safer, point to point transport across the state”

Future joint operations between the Commission, Transport for NSW and NSW Police are planned, targeting vehicle maintenance and driver compliance.
