The difference between a deep clean and a vehicle sanitisation station

How do I sanitise a point to point transport vehicle? What is a deep clean, and what is the difference between the two?

COVID safe behaviours are more important now than ever before. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, drivers of point to point vehicles need to carry out good hygiene practices and protect themselves and their passengers from the spread of illness. This includes sanitising your vehicle, or when necessary, having your vehicle deep cleaned.

Sanitising your vehicle

A point to point transport vehicle should be cleaned at least at the end of every shift or after a passenger leave, if they have been unwell, for instance sneezing or coughing. All high touch surfaces, inside and outside the vehicle should be cleaned, for instance, door handles, seat and headrest, window controls, console and dash, seatbelts, steering wheel, buttons on the radio, gear stick, handbrake, cup holders, the payment terminal, and the vehicle’s fuel cap and boot lid and handle should be sanitised with alcohol-based wipes with at least 60% alcohol or household disinfectant.

See our flyer or video for a visual demonstration of sanitising your vehicle.

Vehicle Sanitisation Stations: The Point to Point Transport Commissioner and Transport for NSW provide, complimentary Vehicle Sanitisation Stations at locations throughout metro and regional New South Wales. This is a complimentary service for all point to point transport vehicles entitling them up to two sanitisations, per vehicle, per day to help reduce the spread of illness and assist with maintaining driver and passenger safety. This includes taxis, hire vehicles, rideshare vehicles, community transport, Government fleet and Emergency Services vehicles

The professional service focuses on sanitising high touch areas of the vehicle, such as exterior and interior door handles, boot handle, window controls, steering wheel, visors, centre console, gear stick, handbrake, grip handles, glove box, dashboard, seatbelts, seats, headrests, mobile phone holders, cup holders, fuel door, fuel cap, meters and payment equipment.

Drivers are entitled to two sanitations per vehicle per day. To find a Vehicle Sanitisation Station in your local government area go to our website

You must not go to a Vehicle Sanitisation Station if your vehicle has transported a person who has tested positive with Covid-19 or been a close contact: it must be deep cleaned first.

Deep cleaning a vehicle:

A deep clean of a vehicle must occur if a confirmed case of a COVID-19 (passenger or driver) has been in the vehicle. This deep clean must be performed by the driver, vehicle owner or a cleaning company.

For hard services, either:

  • Use detergent and water for cleaning, followed by a disinfection solution.
  • Use a combined detergent and disinfectant solution.
