The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade 2022

The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade returns to the Sydney Cricket Ground in Moore Park on Saturday 5 March 2022. More than 40,000 ticketholders are expected to attend this year with the parade starting from 6pm and finishing around 10.30pm. 

What does this mean for the point to point transport industry? 

Local road closures and special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect for the event on Saturday 5 March. 

  • Driver Avenue will be closed at Lang Road from 9am Saturday 5 March until 3am Sunday 6 March.  

  • The Eastern Distributor Bondi exit to Moore Park Rd will be closed between 10pm and 11.30pm for the safety of spectators leaving the parade. Use the Randwick Anzac Parade exit for access to the SCG via Lang Rd. 

  • Special event clearways will be in effect on roads in Moore Park and surrounding areas from 3pm until midnight on Saturday 5 March including sections of Albion Street, Moore Park Road, Lang Road, Chalmers Street, Fitzroy Street, Flinders Street and Foveaux Street.  

Clearways are strict no-parking zones, and apply even to local residents or Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Taxis, and hire vehicle (including rideshare) drivers are advised to check signs before parking as vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and a towing fee applies. 

Pick ups and drop offs 

Point to point transport drivers are encouraged to use the following locations for pick ups and drop offs before and after the parade: 

  • Taxis – Entertainment Quarter Taxi Rank – access from Errol Flynn Blvd / Lang Rd 

  • Taxis – drop off only in Driver Ave from Moore Park Rd 

  • Hire vehicles (including rideshare) – drop off only in Driver Ave from Moore Park Rd 

  • Hire vehicles (including rideshare) – streets surrounding Moore Park  

Rideshare exclusion zone 

A rideshare exclusion zone will be in effect from 7pm to 11.30pm on the following roads in the immediate vicinity of the SCG  

  • Anzac Pde between Dacey Ave and Flinders St – both directions  

  • Driver Ave between Moore Park Rd and Lang Rd – both directions 

  • Flinders St between South Dowling St and Anzac Pde – both directions 

  • Lang Rd between Anzac Pde and Errol Flynn Blvd – both directions 

  • Moore Park Rd between Regent St and Anzac Pde – both directions 

All motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, and follow the directions of signs, NSW Police and traffic control. 

Please note that this year, roads around the Sydney CBD and Oxford Street will not be closed as the usual parade route won’t be held on-road.
