What the latest PHO update means for the industry

Important COVID-19 update

With the evolving COVID-19 situation and changes being announced by the Premier in response to Omicron COVID-19 outbreak, we want to make sure you are clear regarding your obligations under the Public Health Order and what you need to do to make sure every point-to-point ride is a COVID safe ride.

What are the requirements on face masks?

Mask up and ride safe

Mask wearing continues to be mandatory in point to point transport vehicles across NSW.

Drivers and passengers are required to wear a mask when travelling in taxis, hire vehicles and rideshare when a passenger service is being provided. This includes at a rank or rideshare pickup/ drop off area.

Mandatory mask wearing does not apply to:
•    Children 12 and under
•    Persons with a physical or mental health illness or condition, or disability, that makes wearing a fitted face covering unsuitable

What about NSW Government QR Code check-ins?

Check-in via the NSW Government QR code is not a mandatory requirement in point to point transport vehicles across NSW for drivers and passengers.
QR codes, however, continue to be an effective safety measure to assist NSW Health with contact tracing. Services providers and drivers may still choose to leave QR codes in vehicles and encourage check-in.

What else can the industry do to be COVID safe?

We understand that these are challenging times, especially given the time of year. We thank the industry for your continued resilience and cooperation to ensure that every ride is a COVID safe ride.

  • Wear a mask at all times when providing passenger services
  • Protect yourself by getting vaccinated — Booster vaccinations are now available for those who are eligible
  • Get tested immediately if you are showing symptoms
  • Maintain safe hygiene practices to prevent the spread of illness including sanitising vehicle at the end of each shift (at a minimum)
  • Utilise Vehicle Sanitisation Stations
