Vehicle Sanitisation Stations

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner and Transport for NSW are rolling out government-funded, complimentary vehicle sanitisation stations at locations throughout metro and regional New South Wales. This is a complimentary service for all point to point transport vehicles entitling them up to two sanitisations, per vehicle, per day to help reduce the spread of illness and assist with maintaining driver and passenger safety. This includes taxis, hire vehicles, rideshare vehicles, community transport, Government fleet and Emergency Services vehicles. Further information for the point to point transport industry during the COVID-19 outbreak is available on our dedicated COVID-19 webpage.

How to use

Once at the location, drivers should follow the signs directing them towards the Sanitisation Station.

Drivers will be directed to park in a sanitisation bay. Vehicle sanitisation will take between 5 and 10 minutes depending on the demand at the facility.

The service focuses on sanitising high touch areas of the vehicle, such as exterior and interior door handles, boot handle, window controls, steering wheel, visors, centre console, gear stick, handbrake, grip handles, glove box, dashboard, seatbelts, seats, headrests, mobile phone holders, cup holders, fuel door, fuel cap, meters and payment equipment.

The vehicle sanitisation station service is not a COVID-19 deep cleaning service. Vehicles that have transported COVID-19 positive individuals will require a COVID-19 deep clean prior to using the vehicle sanitisation station facilities. The vehicle sanitisation stations are not a car wash service.

Drivers are eligible for up to two cleans per vehicle per day. In the event of a passenger spreading droplets such as sneezing, coughing or vomiting after a vehicle has been sanitised earlier that same day, a driver may be eligible to have their vehicle sanitised again.

During their visit, drivers will be asked basic questions such as their mobile phone number and a photograph of the sanitised vehicle will be recorded at the facility. These details will help to inform the expansion of the rollout throughout New South Wales.

Drivers should continue to employ standard cleaning practices at the end of each shift, as part of good hygiene practice by wiping down surfaces with disinfectant and between visits to the vehicle sanitisation station.

Access to sanitisation stations does not in any way reduce the primary duty of care of all service providers to ensure the health and safety of passengers, drivers and other persons so far as is reasonably practicable. This means that additional vehicle cleaning may be required outside the use of the sanitisation station.

Hand sanitiser

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner is offering 10,000 units of free hand sanitiser to the point to point transport industry across New South Wales, to keep drivers and passengers safe and slow the spread of COVID-19.

Hand sanitiser will be available to all point to point drivers including taxis, rideshare, hire vehicles and community transport vehicles, and will also be made available for their passengers use during their trip.

Drivers are eligible for two free units of hand sanitiser, per week, until stock lasts, which is available for pick up from vehicle sanitisation stations.

Clean up kits

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner and Transport for NSW are making one-time use clean up kits available for point to point transport vehicles to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Clean up kits are used in the event of a passenger spreading droplets, such as coughing or sneezing, so point to point transport drivers can clean themselves or their vehicle surfaces to potentially reduce the spread of infection.

Drivers should report all incidents and the use of clean up kits to service providers.

The kit contains gloves, saline eye wash, antiseptic swabs, soap and first aid hand towels and comes in a resealable plastic bag.

All point to point transport service providers will be eligible for one clean up kit free of charge per point to point vehicle, and they will be available from vehicle sanitisation stations across the state.

If service providers are unable to obtain clean up kits from a vehicle sanitisation station, kits can be ordered via the Point to Point Transport Commissioner Industry Portal .

Service providers are expected to distribute the kits to vehicles over the coming weeks.

Download the guide below for instructions on how to order your clean up kit through the Industry Portal and watch the video for a step-by-step guide on how to use the clean up kit.

Rapid response cleaning team

A Transport for NSW rapid response cleaning team has been set up in response to the COVID-19 outbreak and to help keep NSW safe. Rapid response cleaning teams will service Government assets, buses, fleet vehicles and point to point transport vehicles.

The rapid response cleaning team will be implemented into areas identified as high risk or with COVID-19 outbreaks help minimise the spread of COVID-19.

Rapid response services should be used as an additional safety measure in conjunction with vehicle sanitisation stations and daily vehicle cleaning.

Rapid response services are available in Sydney CBD at the taxi rank Central Station, Grand Concourse.

Central station taxi rank will be available for sanitisation services at varying time during the service period as the team is mobile and will be working on a loop of the major bus stops around the CBD.

This page will be updated with the latest rapid response location information as it becomes available.

Subject to change as this is an evolving situation and the rapid response cleaning team will be deployed where best utilised in line with health and safety advice.
