Encouraging results from our security camera systems blitz

Published

In May, Authorised Officers from the Point to Point Transport Commission conducted on-street inspections of taxis, checking for security camera system compliance. The team of up to 6 officers inspected vehicles in most of the Greater Sydney region extending from the Northern Beaches to Miranda, and from Penrith to the Eastern Suburbs. In that time, 245 vehicles were spot checked, and only 2 were found to have inoperative/ non-compliant cameras. A great result!

Passengers don’t need to provide their name and contact details when hailing a taxi or catching one from a rank, so it is important for driver and passenger safety that taxis have compliant security camera systems that are correctly installed and fully operational. There is a strict set of requirements that a security camera system must meet in order to be compliant. The requirements cover the correct installation and functionality of the camera

The Commission has resources available to help you understand the security camera system requirements including:

Our Authorised Officers will be continuing their checks on security camera systems as a regular part of our on-street checks and audits.
