14 October - 1 November 2022 Compliance Summary

Published

In the last two weeks, the Commissioner’s on-street compliance team has been out in full force at taxi ranks and rideshare drop off/ pick up areas at major events around Metro NSW, targeting drivers providing rank and hail services for failing to use the meter, fare refusal and other offences.

Commissioner, Anthony Wing noted the effectiveness of the recently increased compliance presence at key locations during peak times. “The presence of my compliance team at a number of major events in Sydney is helping to deter this behaviour”.

The taxi meter must be used during a rank and hail trip, and under no circumstance can a driver demand a cash fare or refuse a fare instead of using a meter.

The Commissioner’s on-street compliance team will continue to target drivers at major events around NSW who are not following the law. All drivers that aren’t doing the right thing are reminded that significant fines and penalties apply.
