It was a busy week for the Commissioner’s on-street inspectors, with several events being held around Sydney. The Rugby Union game between the Waratahs and Fijian Drua at Allianz Stadium on 28 February 2025 and the Mardi Gras Parade on 1 March 2025 drew large crowds to the Sydney CBD. In the meantime, Kylie Minogue, Billie Eilish and Green Day played concerts across several dates at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney Olympic Park.

Billie Eilish’ concerts at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park
The American popstar descended on the New South Wales capital and played a series of concerts between 24 and 28 February 2025. On-street inspectors were kept busy and examined 325 taxis and 257 rideshare vehicles.
Mardi Gras – Sydney CBD and Moore Park
The 47th Sydney Mardi Gras commenced on 14 February 2025 and wrapped up on Saturday 1 March with the world-famous Mardi Gras Parade. A large crowd attended the parade, held along Oxford and Flinders Streets with several roads closed, and clearways in place. The Commissioner’s team of on-street inspectors were present in and around the event to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles and pedestrians. The inspectors maintained a highly visible presence to deter drivers from refusing to accept hiring and to ensure meters were being used, as well as to provide safety and compliance for passengers.
During their operations, the Commissioner’s inspectors checked 44 taxis and 67 rideshare vehicles. A total of 11 penalty notices were issued, as well as one Improvement Notice and two Prohibition Notices.

- One Improvement Notice was issued for a driver whose vehicle did not have a compliant driver identification document holder.
Kylie Minogue – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park
Between 1 and 3 March 2025, Australian icon Kylie Minogue held a series of concerts at Qudos Bank Arena. The events drew large crowds, and on-street inspectors were positioned at strategic locations to ensure drivers were not plying for hire or creating traffic congestion. The team also checked 52 taxi and 124 hire vehicles, with a great overall level of compliance, which is a great result on a night like this!
- One Penalty Notice was issued for the failure to use the meter
- One Penalty Notice was issued for the failure to display a taxi driver identity document
- One Improvement Notice was issued for a non-working security camera.
