The Commissioner’s on-street inspectors have been busy keeping passengers and drivers safe this week, conducting compliance operations at a sporting and cultural events across the state.

Sydney Airport Operation
On 2 October 2025, a compliance operation was conducted at the Sydney Airport, targeting retroreflective signs. 28 Penalty notices were issued for not displaying retroreflective signage, as well as one (1) Improvement Notice for a separate breach.
Randwick Races – Epsom Day
On-street inspectors were present at the Randwick Racecourse on 4 October 2025, inspecting 89 hire vehicles and 46 taxis. 11 Penalty Notices and one (1) Improvement Notice were issued. At the events egress, the taxi rank experienced high demand. King Street was busy, however there were multiple taxis standing other than in a taxi zone.
Knockout Outdoor 2025 – Sydney Olympic Park
Approximately 70,000 people attended the Knockout Outdoor festival on 4 October 2025, at Sydney Olympic Park. The Commissioner’s inspectors were present, inspecting 34 hire vehicles and 27 taxis. Two (2) Penalty Notices were issued.
NRL Grand Final 2025 – Sydney Olympic Park
Sydney Olympic Park was abuzz again on 6 October 2025, with approximately 80,000 people in attendance for the NRL grand final. 83 hire vehicles and 54 taxis were inspected. Eight (8) Penalty Notices and eight (8) Improvement Notices were issued.
On-street inspectors were onsite to ensure drivers accepted hiring and used meters both at the rank and when being hailed along Australia Avenue. Additionally, Point to Point Transport Commission vehicles were strategically placed with signage advising passengers that drivers are required to use the fare calculation device.
Safety Alert
Five (5) Defect Notices were issued this week during multiple compliance operations across Sydney. Each of these related to vehicles maintenance, operating with tyres below 1.5mm tread.
