Taxi fares and charges in NSW differ depending on whether you are travelling in an urban or country area.
More information on the fares order, rank and hail fares and other charges can be found on Transport for NSW's website.
Next steps for service providers
The new fares are the maximum fares that can be charged by a taxi providing a rank and hail service. Taxi service providers can apply all, some, or none of the increase.
Point to point transport law requires that the fares for journeys and any additional tolls, fees, or charges, that may be payable, must be clearly displayed inside taxis that stand or ply for hire.
Service providers who choose to move to higher fares, must comply with the point to point transport law by:
- Determining that their fare structure does not exceed the maximum fares
- Publishing the fare structure on their website (if they have one)
- Displaying the fare structure in all taxi vehicles
- Adjusting all fare calculation devices (meters)
- Making copies of the fare structure available to customers on request.
Temporary flyers showing the new maximum fares are available for service providers as an interim measure while permanent stickers are printed. These flyers can be displayed in taxis to cover the period whilst service providers are designing and printing their permanent stickers. Download the flyer here:
