Two Wheelchair Accessible Taxi licences cancelled this month

Published

Earlier this month, the Point to Point Transport Commissioner cancelled two more Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT) licences for not meeting the requirement of giving preference to customers in wheelchairs.  The associated licence holders had failed to meet their WAT licence obligations over several months.

The current total of WAT licences cancelled by the Commissioner is now seven.

Both licence holders were monitored for their performance which either continued to remain the same or declined. Although both licence holders were provided the opportunity by the Commissioner to show cause as to why their licences should not be cancelled, they failed to do so.

Under current point to point transport law, WAT licence holders must give preference to customers in wheelchairs and are regularly monitored for compliance. The Commissioner may cancel or suspend the licence if the terms and conditions have not been met.
