Weekly Wrap: on-street compliance

Published

This week, the Commissioner’s team of on-street Inspectors attended several events across Sydney and regional New South Wales, where they conducted compliance and safety enforcement activities.

Across the week 5 May 2025 to 11 May 2025

  • 35 breaches were identified
  • 22 Improvement Notices were issued

Super Rugby Pacific: NSW Waratahs vs. Queensland Reds at Moore Park

On 9 May 2025, 52 rideshare vehicles and 33 taxis were inspected when the New South Wales Waratahs played against the Queensland Reds at Allianz Stadium at the Moore Park Entertainment Precinct, which was attended by 15,000 sports fans.

Special event clearways were in place during most of the day and Point to Point Transport Commission vehicles were positioned at Errol Flynn Boulevard and Moore Park Road, displaying clear warning signs as a visual deterrent for non-compliance.

The Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors issued one Penalty Notice.

National Rugby League: Magic Round at Tamworth

Between 10 and 11 May 2025, the Commissioner’s regional Inspectors attended the first Regional Magic Round held in Tamworth, which featured several games with NRL teams from across the country. The team inspected 14 rideshare vehicles and 25 taxis.

The Inspectors were on-site to oversee vehicle movements and to ensure compliance, as well as passenger safety.

Four Penalty Notices and five Improvement Notices were issued.

Security cameras in taxis

During recent compliance activities, several taxis were found not fitted with a compliant and operating security camera system. All vehicles providing taxi passenger services in New South Wales must be fitted with an approved security camera system that is in good working order and complies with specifications under the law.

This is an important reminder for taxi service providers and operators about their obligations to have a working, and compliant security camera system in their vehicles.
