Weekly Wrap: on-street compliance

This week, the on-street Inspectors attended several events across New South Wales, where they conducted overt and plain clothes compliance operations. 

Across the week 26 May 2025 to 1 June 2025

  • 72 breaches were identified
  • 20 Improvement Notices were issued
  • 1 Prohibition Notice was issued. 

Vivid Sydney – Sydney CBD 

Sydney’s Vivid Festival, a multidisciplinary festival of lights, music, food and ideas, is entering its second week. The Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors have returned to the Sydney Central Business District to conduct their compliance activities during this busy time. 

Between 26 May and 1 June 2025, the inspectors identified 46 fare-related offences: 

  • 28 breaches against the fares order
  • 13 breaches for not using the fare calculation device (taxi meter)
  • 5 breaches for refusing to accept a hiring when offered. 

Bliss & Eso – Byron Bay 

On 30 May, emcees Bliss and Eso accompanied by DJ Izm landed in Byron Bay’s Beach Hotel for a splendid concert showcasing their extensive discography spanning over 20 years. 

The Inspectors were on-site to oversee vehicle movements and ensure vehicle compliance and passenger safety. Twenty-one rideshare vehicles and one taxi were inspected, with one Penalty Notice issued on the day. 

Australian Football League: Sydney Swans vs. Adelaide Crows - Moore Park Entertainment Quarter

On 31 May, the Sydney Swans hosted the Adelaide Crows at the Moore Park Entertainment Quarter. 

Thirty-three rideshare and 25 taxis were inspected, and the Inspectors issued one Penalty Notice and one Improvement Notice. 

It was a crowded event with approximately 21,000 spectators attending to witness the Crows seize victory over the Swans. The Inspectors focused on activities on Errol Flynn Boulevard and Lang Road. The Taxi rank on Errol Flynn Blvd was relatively quiet throughout the night.
