Weekly Wrap: on-street compliance

The Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors continued their compliance activities across the state this week. Special focus was given to Sydney Airport, where targeted compliance operations occurred.  

Across the week 21 July 2025 to 27 July 2025 

  • 33 breaches were identified 
  • 23 Improvement Notices were issued. 

Compliance activities – Sydney Airport Precinct  

Whilst the inspectors always maintain a visible presence at the airport precinct, this week they conducted targeted compliance activities at both International and Domestic airport precincts.  

The team executed both plain clothes and overt compliance activities where they targeted driver behaviour, specifically touting and fare related offences.  

 The team issued 33 Penalty Notices. 

NRL: Canterbury Bulldogs vs. Manly Sea Eagles – Moore Park Entertainment Quarter 

On 26 July 2025, the clash between the Canterbury Bulldogs and Manly Sea Eagles took place at Moore Park stadium. The on-street inspectors attended the event, which drew a crowd of 26,000 spectators. The team checked 35 rideshare vehicles and 26 taxis. Overall compliance was excellent, with zero Penalty or Improvement Notices issued. 

The inspectors were strategically positioned on Errol Flynn Boulevard and Moore Park Road, ensuring drivers were accepting hirings and using the fare calculation device. They also made sure vehicles were not plying for hire.

Top 3 Driver related offences:  

  • Not displaying the retroreflective sign in hire and rideshare vehicles (7) 
  • Breaches against the Fares Order (9) 
  • Taxis only to be hired at airports in designated zones (5). 

Offences relating to Clauses 20(2), Clause 76(5) and Clause 67(1) of the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire vehicles) Regulation 2017 

Top 3 Improvement Notices:  

  • Vehicle maintenance (10) 
  • Security cameras not working in a taxi (7)  
  • Taxis not clearly showing the taxi meter (3).
