Wet weather warnings require increased vigilance across the industry

As you may be aware, weather warnings have been issued across NSW due to a front currently sitting over North Eastern NSW, with significant rain leading to flash flooding and several flood warnings being issued in the region.

Minor flooding is expected on the Wilsons River at Lismore from tonight (Thursday), with further rises possible as rainfall continues. A severe thunderstorm warning is also current for locally intense rainfall and strong winds in Metropolitan Sydney, Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and parts of Hunter, Central Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also noted that they are anticipating significant rainfall which may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding across Sydney, the Hunter, Blue Mountains, Illawarra and South Coast from tomorrow,

All service providers should alert their drivers to these serious weather conditions. They should be reminded to plan ahead, drive to the conditions and if they do come across a flooded road, do not drive through it. Stop, turn around and find an alternate route.

Drivers when doing their pre-departure checks should be mindful of the weather conditions and ensure the rain has not impacted, for instance, their headlights and brake lights as lights can be vulnerable to water damage affecting visibility.

Drivers and service providers should stay up to date on the latest forecasts and road conditions by checking Live Traffic and SES warnings before starting their shift and throughout the day.
