Weekly Wrap - on-street compliance

Published

28 October – 3 November 2024

Over the past week the Commissioner’s Authorised Officers (AOs) have continued their statewide compliance blitz targeting meter visibility in taxis, as well as plain clothes and highly visible uniformed activities at major events and targeted locations.

Across the week:

  • 19 breaches were identified

  • 41 Improvement Notices were issued

  • 2 Prohibition Notices have been issued

Taxi meter blitz

The Commissioner’s AOs conducted a compliance blitz across the state this week to crack down on rogue drivers intentionally hiding the meter from passengers.

Taxi operators are also being targeted as a part of the blitz to make sure they are ensuring meters in their taxis are visible to all passengers.

503 vehicle inspections were conducted by the team between Monday 28 October - Sunday 3 November with 28 vehicles found to be non-compliant.

Our AOs also noted that over the week the level of compliance and meter visibility improved.

To ensure every passenger is getting a fair fare, passengers must always be able to see the meter, and taxis drivers must always charge what is displayed on the meter. The fare displayed on the meter must not exceed that listed in the NSW Fare Order.

Please see our media release that was issued last Friday on the blitz.
