The Moore Park Entertainment Quarter hosted multiple events and drew several thousand attendees over the weekend.
Across the week 3 March to 9 March 2025
- 27 breaches were identified
- 7 Improvement Notices were issued
Australian Football League: Sydney Swans vs. Hawthorn
On 7 March 2025, the Sydney Swans hosted Hawthorn at Moore Park. Approximately 40,000 AFL fans attended the highly anticipated fixture, with many patrons using public transport on their journey to the district.
On-street inspectors were present, including near the taxi rank on Errol Flynn Boulevard to ensure the rank was clear from rideshare and private vehicles, and to ensure taxi drivers were accepting fares as well as using the meter.
Overall, the team inspected 42 rideshare vehicles and 34 taxis.
Knotfest and Super Rugby Pacific
On 8 March 2025, the travelling music festival Knotfest descended on Sydney for its annual edition held at Centennial Park. Thousands of alternative music devotees attended the event.
Simultaneously, the Super Rugby game between the NSW Waratahs and the Western Force from Western Australia took place at Allianz Stadium, which attracted many sport fans. Major event road closures around both locations were in place to manage the pedestrian and vehicle flow.
The on-street inspectors were present around the precinct to enforce compliance. The team inspected 51 rideshare vehicles and 28 taxis.
Retroreflective signs – rideshare and hire vehicles
Failure to display a retroreflective sign on a rideshare or hire vehicle continues to be one of the most frequently issued penalties to drivers – with 18 being issued across this week’s events to rideshare drivers. Booking Service providers must ensure their drivers understand this safety requirement and comply. Our Retroreflective Sign Toolkit contains resources that can be easily shared with drivers.
Signs, lights and markings - taxis
During this week’s compliance operations at major events, 3 improvement notices were issued to taxis for not having a compliant roof sign, for example, the roof signs did not display that words Taxi, Cab or Cabs.
The signs, lights and markings on a taxi vehicle are an important indicator to a passenger that the vehicle is authorised and safe to provide passenger services. There are safety standards regarding what signs, lights and markings must be displayed on taxis providing rank and hail passenger services.
This is an important reminder to all service providers and drivers to remain vigilant that their vehicles are compliant.
More information on these safety requirements can be found on the following Fact Sheet.
