How the recent easing of restrictions impact the industry

Published

As international borders reopen and restrictions continue to ease across NSW, we want to make sure service providers and drivers are clear regarding their obligations under the Public Health Order.

Are face masks still required in point to point transport vehicles?

Yes. Mask wearing continues to be mandatory in point to point transport vehicles across NSW.

Drivers and passengers are required to wear a mask when travelling in taxis, hire vehicles and rideshare when a passenger service is being provided. This includes at a rank or rideshare pickup/ drop off area.

Mandatory mask wearing does not apply to:
•    Children 12 and under
•    Persons with a physical or mental health illness or condition, or disability, that makes wearing a fitted face covering unsuitable.

What are the vaccination requirements for Sydney International Airport?

Vaccination requirements for drivers picking up passengers from Sydney International Airport have recently changed:

•    Drivers are required to be fully vaccinated if they are transporting passengers to and from a quarantine facility or medical facility or transporting flight crew.
•    Evidence of vaccination must be provided to the police on request

What can be expected following the reopening of international borders?

As international and national borders continue to reopen, we can expect to see an uplift in public demand for point to point transport in both metro and regional areas.

What else can the industry do to be COVID safe?

As restrictions are being eased and the industry experiences an increase in public demand, we ask drivers and service providers to stay attentive and continue to act in a responsible and COVID safe manner.

Remember to:

  • Mask up: Drivers and passengers must wear a mask
  • Get boosted: Booster vaccinations are now available for those who are eligible
  • Sanitise your vehicle: At least at the end of each shift and utilise Vehicle Sanitisation Stations
  • Get tested: If drivers test positive via a RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) or PCR, they must immediately self-isolate for 7 days from date of the test and can only leave self-isolation once they are symptom-free. They must also register their positive RAT via Service NSW, and immediately advise their service provider of the positive result which must be reported via the Industry Portal.
