On Wednesday, 12 July, the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) Annual Survey of Point to Point Transport use 2023 was released. The report surveyed approximately 3,000 NSW residents during March 2023 about their use and perceptions of taxis, rideshare and hire vehicles. The geographical regions of the surveyed participants include metropolitan Sydney, along with other urban areas including Newcastle, Wollongong, Gosford, and Wyong, and regions of regional NSW.

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner is pleased to see that use of taxis and rideshare in NSW has increased in 2023 with overall customer satisfaction remaining high.

IPART’s report found that rideshare usage has increased in all areas of NSW and sits above pre-COVID-19 levels of usage. Taxi usage has also increased by 7% in ‘other urban areas’ with taxis in the rest of NSW also exceeding pre-COVID-19 levels, with a significant increase of 16% since 2022.

The Commissioner’s continued prioritisation of ensuring a safer point to point transport industry is also highlighted in the report with customer perception of safety in the point to point transport industry remaining high.
