Keeping point to point transport drivers and passengers safe this long weekend

Published

With restrictions now easing across the state, it is likely there will be increased patronage of point to point transport over the Queen's Birthday long weekend (Friday 5 June to Monday 8 June inclusive) as people get out and about to enjoy the extra day off. Drivers of point to point transport in NSW are reminded to keep themselves and their passengers safe.

Drivers are reminded of the following:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water
  • Employ standard cleaning practices at the end of each shift, as part of good hygiene practice by wiping down surfaces with disinfectant
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitiser is advised where possible between hand washes and after opening and closing doors, moving luggage, exchanging payment and after personal contact
  • Encourage customers to use contactless payments where possible, to further reduce chances of community spread
  • Visit vehicle sanitisation stations in Alexandria (Sydney Metro) and Dubbo (Regional NSW) to have high touch areas of the vehicle sanitised for free.
  • Carry out regular vehicle spot cleans between visits to the vehicle sanitisation station and between shifts

Passengers are reminded of the following:

  • Passengers should sit in the backseat of the vehicle
  • Go cashless and use contactless where available
  • Do not travel if they are feeling unwell
  • Handle their own luggage

The point to point website offers more information on vehicle sanitisation and tips on how to clean your vehicle.

SECURITY GUARDS AT SECURE RANKS

From Friday 5 June 2020, security guards will return to secure taxi ranks in Sydney and regional NSW. Guards will be operating at some Sydney CBD secure ranks on Sunday evening, for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

With social distancing restrictions in NSW beginning to ease, taxi patronage is likely to increase. Guards at secure ranks will ensure the safety and security of passengers and drivers using these services. Initially, up to two guards will be stationed at a number of secure taxi ranks across Sydney and NSW. This number will be reviewed over the coming weeks, as secure rank patronage is monitored closely.

Security guards will also return to secure taxi ranks in Sydney and regional NSW from Friday 5 June 2020 for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Guards will remain present at secure ranks on Friday and/or Saturday evenings at varying times and locations. The list of secure ranks in Sydney and NSW can be found at transportnsw.info.
