Point to Point Transport Commissioner’s visit to Broken Hill

Published

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner Anthony Wing and members of his Audit team visited Broken Hill on Wednesday 4 and Thursday 5 September 2019. The Commissioner was pleased to have the opportunity to start building positive working relationships with service providers in regional NSW.

Broken Hill was one of the first regional centres visited by Mr Wing since he was appointed Commissioner in July 2019. During the visit, Mr Wing met with local service providers to discuss their operations, with a focus on safety.

“It’s really good to see people face-to-face,” he said. “We get to see their business, they get to ask us questions directly, which means there is a much better chance of understanding exactly what the safety issues are they may be facing.”

The Commissioner also met with the local council, police, and members of Broken Hill’s Roads and Maritime Services’ team to hear their perspective on local point to point transport matters.  Mr Wing spoke with local media, with an article in the Barrier Daily Truth, and interviews on ABC Radio Broken Hill and on Spencer Gulf Nightly News.

The Commissioner’s Compliance team undertakes advisory visits with service providers across the state, to discuss safety obligations and audit requirements. The Commissioner joined his team conducting advisory visits with Broken Hill service providers.

“Advisory visits allow us to work alongside service providers to ensure they are confident they have the knowledge required to comply with point to point transport law.”

“We want people to be confident the industry is well run and the safety of passengers and drivers is the top priority for both the regulator and the industry’s service providers,” Mr Wing said.
