Between 21 and 23 March 2025, approximately 4,000 motorbike fans descended on Bathurst’s Russel Street to attend the annual motorbike show. The event, which has been held in the centre of Bathurst for over 15 years, had 190 vehicles on display. The Commissioner’s on-street inspectors were present to conduct compliance activities and to enforce passenger safety - 3 rideshare vehicles and 28 taxis were checked. Two improvement notices were issued however overall, compliance was good at the event.

Designated areas

During recent compliance activities, several passenger service vehicles were found stopping outside the designated area at the Sydney Airport precinct. This is not allowed and may result in a Penalty Notice being issued.

Designated area for a passenger vehicle means “an area in the Sydney Airport precinct or at another airport that is designated by signs erected with the approval of the Sydney Airport Corporation Limited or the manager of the airport as an area for the setting down and picking up of passengers of that kind of vehicle”.

This is an important reminder that drivers must adhere to their obligations when conducting passenger services. More information on driver obligations can be found here

Displaying information inside a taxi

Several taxi vehicles which were recently inspected were found not to display the information as required by point to point law. Examples of information that must be displayed in taxis include rank and hail fare orders and appropriate driver identification. If a taxi vehicle is found not displaying the required information, then an Improvement Notice may be issued to the operator or network.

It is important to ensure all required information is displayed inside a taxi vehicle. Our Fact Sheet can assist you with reviewing and improving vehicle compliance.
