The Commissioner’s team of on-street Inspectors were kept busy during the first week of April. They were present at and around several well-attended events that took place across Sydney and the rest of New South Wales, from music festivals and concerts to sports’ games and racing days.
Across the week 31 March to 6 April 2025:
- 45 breaches were identified
- 15 Improvement Notices were issued
- 2 Prohibition Notices were issued.
Andrea Bocelli – Moore Park Entertainment Quarter
On 3 April 2025, the Italian tenor performed a concert which was attended by approximately 30,000 fans. The on-street Inspectors were present in the area, including along Moore Park and Lang Roads, ensuring taxis were accepting fares when hired as well as using the meters. The Inspectors also ensured that the busy traffic kept flowing, thus avoiding congestion.
The team checked 15 rideshare vehicles and 7 taxis and issued two Penalty Notices.
Women’s Soccer: Australia vs. Korean Republic – Allianz Stadium
On 4 April 2025, Australia’s Matildas took on the Korean Republic’s Taegeuk Ladies at Moore Park’s Allianz Stadium. The friendly match was attended by approximately 40,000 sports fans. The taxi rank on Erroll Flynn Boulevard and roads around the precinct were busy. On-street Inspectors were strategically located at key locations to ensure compliance and passenger safety, as well as to move vehicles and ensure a good flow of traffic.
The inspectors checked 27 rideshare and 18 taxi vehicles. Overall compliance was good, with one Prohibition Notice issued.
The Star Championship Day – Randwick
On 5 April 2025, the first day of The Star Championships, the Grand Finals of Australian Racing held over two days, took place at the Royal Randwick Racecourse. Large crowds attended the event, and patrons arrived continuously throughout the day. On-street Inspectors maintained a highly visible presence, including vehicles positioned at the taxi rank displaying signs advising drivers should use the meter.
The Inspectors were kept very busy and checked 149 rideshare and 193 taxi vehicles and issued 23 Penalty Notices, 2 Improvement Notices and one Prohibition Notice.
SummerSalt Tour 2025 – Port Macquarie
Also on 5 April 2025, the 2025 SummerSalt Tour descended on the seaside town of Port Macquarie. Aussie icons like Missy Higgins, John Butler, Josh Pyke and The Whitlams performed their sets at the waterfront Westport Park.
The Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors checked 14 rideshare vehicles and 22 taxis. Overall compliance was good, with two Penalty Notices issued on the day.
