This week, those working across the point to point transport industry as well as the Point to Point Transport Commissioner’s team of on-street Inspectors were kept busy with many people out and about enjoying the mild autumn weather and the Anzac Day long weekend. The on-street Inspectors conducted several compliance activities across New South Wales.
Across the week 21 April 2025 to 27 April 2025
- 28 breaches were identified
- 29 Improvement Notices were issued
- 1 major Defect Notice was issued.
Sydney Roosters vs. St. George Illawarra Dragons – Moore Park Entertainment Quarter
On Anzac Day, the National Rugby League clash between the Sydney Roosters and the St. George Illawarra Dragons took place at the Moore Park Entertainment Quarter. The highly anticipated fixture was attended by approximately 40,000 sports fans.
Major road closures were in place around the precinct and the on-street inspectors were on-site to manage the crowd leaving the event. Point to Point Transport Commissioner vehicles were positioned in strategic areas displaying the message that drivers must always use the meter when providing rank and hail services.
Thirty-seven rideshare vehicles and 28 taxis were inspected, resulting in one Penalty Notice and one Improvement Notice being issued.
Reminder to clearly show your fare calculation devices (taxi meters)
During recent compliance activities, several taxis were found with their fare calculation device, also known as a taxi meter, not clearly visible for passengers. This is an important reminder for drivers and service providers that it is a legal requirement that the fare calculation device must be visible to all passengers in the vehicle as per Clause 14(22) of the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire vehicles) Regulation 2017.
Drivers must ensure that the meter's display can always be clearly seen by all passengers in the taxi. Passenger view of the meter must not be blocked, and the meter cannot be placed where the passenger cannot see the fare.
