Weekly Wrap: on-street compliance

Published

The Point to Point Transport Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors attended several events across the state, conducting plain clothes and overt compliance operations and safety checks.

Across the week 19 May 2025 to 25 May 2025

  • 52 breaches were identified
  • 17 Improvement Notices were issued
  • 1 Prohibition Notice was issued.

National Rugby League: Penrith Panthers vs. Newcastle Knights - Bathurst

On 24 May 2025, the clash between the Penrith Panthers and the Newcastle Nights, with the latter seizing victory, took place at Carrington Park in Bathurst. Inspectors checked one rideshare vehicle and six taxis, issuing one Improvement Notice.

The game was attended by approximately 12,000 sport fans, which kept the local taxi service providers busy. The Commissioner’s inspectors were on-site to oversee vehicle movements and compliance and to ensure passenger safety.

Vivid Sydney – Sydney CBD

Between 23 and 27 May 2025, the Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors attended the 15th annual Vivid Sydney festival, which illuminates the Central Business District and surrounding areas with awe-inspiring art installations and 3D light projections.

Twenty-four fare-related breaches were identified:

  • 16 breaches against the fares order and,
  • 8 breaches for not using the fare calculation device (taxi meter).

Fare-related offences

During recent on-street compliance activities, several fare-related offences were identified. This is an important reminder to all drivers that committing a fare-related offence, such as overcharging, refusing a trip or refusing to use the meter may lead to a $1,000 fine. If found guilty by the Court on two separate occasions for a fare related offence, drivers face being disqualified from driving a taxi, rideshare or any point to point transport vehicle.
