Weekly Wrap: on-street compliance

This week, the Commissioner’s on-street Inspectors braved the wild weather and conducted compliance operations at several events and locations across the state. 

Across the week 28 July 2025 to 3 August 2025 

  • 18 breaches were identified 
  • 35 Improvement Notices were issued 
  • 1 Prohibition Notice was issued.  

Rugby Union: Wallabies vs. British & Irish Lions – Sydney Olympic Park  

On 2 August, the 2025 British & Irish Lions Tour of Australia came to a thrilling end at Accor Stadium, with the Australian team seizing victory in the final test game. Despite the wet weather, more than 80,000 spectators descended on Sydney Olympic Park to watch the game. 

The Commissioner’s Inspectors checked 41 rideshare vehicles and 29 taxis. Overall compliance was great, with one (1) Improvement Notice issued. 

Commission staff worked in conjunction with stakeholders, including NSW Police, to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Inspectors were strategically positioned to ensure no taxis were stopping or plying for hire. 

AFL: Sydney Swans vs. Essendon – Moore Park Entertainment Quarter  

On 2 August, the Sydney Swans took on Essendon at Moore Park, with 36,000 sports fans witnessing the local team win against the visitors in the pouring rain. 

The Commissioner’s inspectors checked 43 rideshare vehicles and 34 taxis and issued four (4) Improvement Notices. 

At the end of the game, Inspectors were positioned on Errol Flynn Boulevard to ensure drivers accepted all hirings and used the fare calculation device. The team was also in position along Moore Park Road to deter taxis from stopping and plying for hire and to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Top 3 Driver related offences:  

  • Not displaying the retroreflective sign in hire and rideshare vehicles (8) 
  • Smoking forbidden in a taxi vehicle (3) 
  • Breaches against the Fares Order (2). 

Offences relating to Clauses 20(2), Clause 59(1) and Clause 76(5) of the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire vehicles) Regulation 2017 

Top 3 Improvement Notices:  

  • Taxis not equipped with an approved and working security camera system (10) 
  • Vehicle maintenance (9) 
  • Fares and figures not clearly displayed on the taxi meter (7).
