From 3 November 2025, all trips from a taxi rank at Sydney Airport to the Sydney CBD trial area will cost $60 for a standard taxi and a wheelchair accessible taxi or $80 for a requested maxi taxi.
This trial, which will run for 18 months, is aimed at providing price clarity and certainty for taxi passengers and at reducing taxi fare-related offences (overcharging and fare refusals).

As a service provider operating from Sydney Airport, how do I prepare for the fixed fare trial?
- Ensure vehicles are fitted with a fare calculation device (meter) that is clearly visible to passengers and is programmed to support the charging of fixed fares.
- Contact your meter provider for support in setting up your meters for the trial.
- Educate drivers on the conditions of the trial before the trial commences.
- Plan how you will monitor drivers to ensure they comply with the requirements of the trial.
What should I have in place when the fixed fare trial commences?
- Signage on the taxi's back seat window displaying the fixed fare structure.
- Copies of the fare structure made available to customers on request.
- Information about the Sydney Airport fixed fare trial published on your website (if you have one).
- Processes in place to investigate complaints and take appropriate action against drivers in breach of the trial.
Temporary signage showing the fixed fare structure is available as an interim measure while service providers arrange for permanent stickers to be printed. Download the sticker here:

Can a driver charge the fixed fare before the trial begins (3 November 2025)?
No. All trips taken up to and including 2 November 2025 must be charged in line with the Fares Order using a compliant, working meter. For more information, view Point to Point Transport (Fares) Order 2025.
What can happen to a driver who doesn’t charge the fixed fare for an applicable trip?
Taxi drivers must always use the meter, even for a fixed fare trip. Drivers are allowed to charge a fare which is less than the fixed fare. However, drivers are not allowed to charge a fare which is higher than the fixed fare – doing so is a fare-related offence.
When a passenger pays using a card, can a non-cash surcharge be added to the fixed fare?
Yes. A surcharge (an extra fee passed on to consumers when they use a card for payment) may be passed on to passengers.
What fare applies to a booked service between Sydney Airport and the Sydney CBD trial area?
Fixed fare rules do not apply to booked passenger services. The passenger will need to pay the fare that was quoted by the booking service provider and agreed to by the passenger at the time the booking was made.
