Restrictions tightened on NSW/Vic border bubble

Published

The Victorian government has made further changes to the existing NSW-Victoria border bubble arrangements to help control the spread of COVID-19.

Residents in the NSW-Victoria border bubble will only be allowed to enter Victoria without a permit for essential reasons as outlined on the Victorian Government website. These changes came into effect 11:59pm Tuesday, 3 August.

What the recent changes mean for point to point transport industry

  • Service providers and drivers who live in the NSW cross-border area (excluding City of Wagga Wagga, Hay Shire Council, Lockhart Shire Council and Murrumbidgee Council) will still be able to enter Victoria without a permit to provide passenger services as working is listed as an essential reason.
  • Service providers and drivers who live in the City of Wagga Wagga, Hay Shire Council, Lockhart Shire Council and Murrumbidgee Council are no longer included in the cross-border bubble.
  • Taxi, hire cars and rideshare service providers and drivers are not listed on the Specified Worker list as outlined by the Victorian Government and are not eligible for the Specified Worker Permit. This means that any driver or service provider outside of the NSW/Vic border bubble cannot enter Victoria to provide passenger services. Fines apply.

We thank you for your vigilance and understand that these are challenging times for the industry.
