Dua Lipa concerts – Qudos Bank Arena

Global popstar Dua Lipa brought her Radical Optimism Tour to Sydney for a series of concerts held between 27 and 29 March 2025. Approximately 30,000 music fans attended the event over two nights.

The Commissioner’s on-street inspectors conducted compliance activities on 28 and 29 March 2025.  Point to Point Transport Commission vehicles were also placed in strategic key areas around Qudos Bank Arena to advise passengers that drivers must use meters.

Across both nights, 47 rideshare vehicles and 23 taxis were inspected. Overall, compliance over both nights was good. One Major Defect Notice was issued for a vehicle with non-compliant tyres.

Joint Operation – Point to Point Transport Commissioner and Guide Dogs NSW/ACT

On 25 March 2025, the Commissioner’s on-street inspectors held a joint plain clothes operation with Guide Dogs NSW/ACT.

In New South Wales, it is against the law for a driver to refuse entry to a passenger with an assistance animal, or an assistance animal in training.

During this operation, inspectors checked five rideshare vehicles and four taxis.

One driver was issued a fine for the refusing an assistance animal. In addition, two drivers were fined for overcharging the passenger travelling with an assistance animal at the end of the trip.  All three drivers now face a $1,000 fine.

The Commissioner’s compliance team will continue to conduct such joint operations to catch drivers who are choosing to break the law. All service providers should ensure that their drivers are aware that the law stipulates that an assistance animal or an assistance animal in training cannot be refused from travelling in a rideshare, taxi or any point to point transport vehicle.

The Commissioner has a range of educational resources to assist service providers and drivers to understand their obligations under the law and the vital role assistance animals play, including videos, a podcast and fact sheets.
