Winter school holidays: July 2020 safety and information

Published

School holidays officially kick off in NSW on Monday 6 until Friday 17 July and with further easing of restrictions including the opening of the QLD border from Friday 10 July, it is likely there will be increased patronage on NSW roads, public transport and use of point to point transport.

Service providers are reminded that they are required to provide safe passenger services.

As Coronavirus restrictions ease, service providers and drivers are encouraged to remind passengers of the following:

  • Do not travel if they are feeling unwell
  • Sit in the backseat of the vehicle where possible
  • Use contactless where available
  • Handle their own luggage including placing it in the boot where possible

Drivers should maintain excellent vehicle and personal hygiene and remember the following:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water
  • Employ standard cleaning practices at the start and end of each shift, by wiping down surfaces with disinfectant
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser where possible between hand washes and after opening and closing doors, exchanging payment and after personal contact
  • Encourage customers to use contactless payments where possible
  • Visit one of the Metro or Regional vehicle sanitisation stations to have high touch areas of the vehicle sanitised for free
  • Carry out regular vehicle spot cleans between visits to the vehicle sanitisation stations and between shifts.

With an increase in Coronavirus cases in Victoria, new rules have been put in place to prevent Melbourne residents living in virus hotspots from travelling across the border. These new measures include penalties for individuals who fail to comply with the rules facing up to six months in prison or a fine of up to $11,000 or both.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND RESTRICTIONS

Passengers in NSW can travel within the state to metro and regional locations and to QLD from Friday 10 July. There are no restrictions to the number of passengers travelling in point to point transport vehicles so long as passengers using these services are following safe physical distancing measures where possible including sitting in the back seat and paying using contactless payment methods.

Sporting events recommence at outdoor venues, which will also see an increase in patronage on point to point transport vehicles.

The rules on gathering remain the same: 20 guests inside the home and 20 for gatherings in a public place.

The NSW Government urges everyone to maintain physical distancing, get tested if you feel unwell and stay home if sick.
