Anzac Day Dawn Service & March road closures

Thousands of participants and spectators are expected to travel to the Sydney CBD for the annual Dawn Service in Martin Place from 4:30am and March along Elizabeth St from 9am.

Key road closure times on Monday 25 April 2022:

  • From 2am to 4pm: Pitt St, George St and Castlereagh St between Hunter and King Streets. Hosking Pl at Castlereagh St and De Mestre Pl at George St.
  • From 2am to 6pm: Angel Place and Ash St.
  • From 6am to 4pm: Major roads between Bridge St and Goulburn St including sections of Castlereagh, Elizabeth, King, Market, Hunter, Bent, Park, Bathurst, Phillip and Liverpool Streets.

Extensive special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on various major roads in the Sydney CBD on Monday 25 April 2022:

  • From 1am to 4pm: Pitt St and Castlereagh St between Hunter and King St, and Clarence St between King and Druitt St.
  • From 5:30am to 4pm: Various major roads between Bridge St and Goulburn St.
  • From 5:30am to 9am: Abercrombie St between O’Connor St and Broadway. 

Clearways are strict no-parking zones, and apply to local residents or Mobility Scheme Permit holders. Drivers should check signs before parking as vehicles left in special event clearways will be towed and a towing fee applies.

Taxi ranks within the road closure footprint will not be accessible until roads reopen. A temporary taxi rank will be located on the western side of Wentworth Avenue at Liverpool Street. Alternatively, drivers will be required to use pick up and drop off points outside of the road closure footprint. 

The below accessible drop off & pick up locations are available for all drivers transporting passengers with accessibility requirements: 

  • Wynyard Street, Southern Side (off York Street)
  • 21 Elizabeth Street (in front of Commonwealth Bank building) – only available until 5:45 am
  • 197 Macquarie Street at Martin Place, western side of Macquarie Street (front of St Stephen’s Church)
  • 210 Pitt Street, approaching Market Street, the eastern side of Pitt Street (outside Stockland Piccadilly)


Drivers are advised to drive to the conditions, allow extra travel time, and follow the directions of signs, NSW Police and traffic control.
