Vehicle Sanitisation Station trial sites rolled out across New South Wales

Thousands of point to point transport drivers have had their vehicles sanitised for free as part of a vehicle sanitisation trial launched in Sydney last month, with more locations identified throughout New South Wales.

The initiative, funded by the NSW Government, is designed to help keep drivers and passengers safe during the Coronavirus health crisis.

Anthony Wing, Point to Point Transport Commissioner, said: “Our number one priority is reducing the spread of the virus to ensure driver and passenger safety is upheld.  I am pleased to announce that following the success of the Sydney metro trial this program has now been rolled out in Dubbo and will be established in other locations in metro and regional New South Wales in the coming weeks.”

“Point to point vehicles eligible for this service include all taxis, hire vehicles including rideshare and community transport vehicles. I really want people who need to use these services for essential travel, to do so with the reassurance they need during the Coronavirus outbreak,” Mr Wing said.

Vehicle sanitisation includes the disinfection of exterior and interior door handles, boot handle, window controls, steering wheel, visors, centre console, gear stick, handbrake, grip handles, glove box, dashboard, seatbelts, seats, headrests, mobile phone holders, cup holders, fuel door, fuel cap meters, and payment equipment. It is not a car wash service.

“Drivers and service providers are already embracing this complimentary once-per-vehicle-per-day service so they can continue with their essential work.

“It’s also been great to see a number of community transport and Wheelchair Accessible Taxi Vehicles coming through for sanitisations, to support the needs of our most vulnerable passengers,” Mr Wing said.

Additional sites across Sydney and regional NSW will be announced and details of locations will be updated on the dedicated Sanitisation Stations webpage.
